The German Chocolate Mocha, often just called the German Chocolate, is a 7 Brew mocha with coconut and caramel. It is named after German chocolate cake, which is known for its coconut frosting.
It is one of 7 Brew's oldest drinks. QSR Magazine reported that the chain "debuted with seven choices," and the German Chocolate was one of them, along with the Blondie, Brunette, Smooth 7, Cinnamon Roll, White Chocolate Mocha and Triple 7.
Coconut, Caramel and No Pecans
It is espresso, 7 Brew's mocha mix, coconut and caramel. The ordering page of a 7 Brew stand in Columbia, South Carolina describes it as "A Coconut & Caramel Mocha," and Community Impact described it the same way in 2024.
- It is not on 7brew.com right now. 7 Brew's website menu has no German Chocolate page. But the drink is in its nutrition guide dated October 1, 2026, and some stands still list it on their ordering pages. If yours does not, order a mocha with coconut and caramel.
- No pecans. German chocolate cake frosting usually has pecans, but pecan is not one of the flavors on 7 Brew's menu.
- Not dairy-free. The nutrition guide lists milk as an allergen, and milk and soy for the sugar-free version. 7 Brew offers oat, almond and coconut milk at no extra charge, but its allergen chart lists milk in the mocha mix and caramel sauce, so a milk swap does not make the drink dairy-free.
Iced vs Frozen Calories
A medium iced German Chocolate is 370 calories with 56 grams of sugar and 120 mg of caffeine, according to 7 Brew's nutrition guide, and a medium hot is 430. A small has the same 120 mg of caffeine as a medium, and a large has twice that.
The frozen chiller is much bigger in every way: 650 calories, 92 grams of sugar and 260 mg of caffeine for a medium, and 930 calories for a large. Our 7 Brew chillers guide explains why chillers have more caffeine.
Sugar-Free German Chocolate: 6 Grams of Sugar, More Fat
7 Brew makes a Sugar-Free German Chocolate Mocha, and both of its flavors are on 7 Brew's list of sugar-free flavors. A medium iced has 6 grams of sugar instead of 56.
It does not save calories, though. The guide lists the sugar-free medium iced at 380 calories, against 370 for the regular one, because it has more fat: 25 grams against 11. The sugar-free chiller is the lighter option, at 170 calories for a medium, and a caramel drizzle on top also comes sugar-free. Our 7 Brew sugar-free guide covers every sugar-free drink.
What Stands Charge and What Customers Say
At the Beltline Boulevard stand in Columbia, South Carolina, one of at least two stands we checked that list it by name, it cost $6.05, the same as the stand's other 7 Originals like the Blondie. A plain mocha there is cheaper, at $5.73. Across the six stands we checked on October 5 and 6, 2026, the 7 Originals cost $6.05 to $6.68 before tax (7 Brew prices).
Customers seem to like it. On the ordering pages of two of the six stands we checked, the German Chocolate had 96% positive ratings across 29 ratings, and one Augusta, Georgia stand listed it as its #3 most liked item. Spoon University's 7 Brew guide called it "a sweet and rich beverage that reminded me of my favorite Girl Scout cookie."
If you like it, try the White Chocolate Mocha, another mocha from 7 Brew's first menu, or the Brunette, a mocha with hazelnut and caramel.
German Chocolate Mocha Recipe
This is our simple home version, not 7 Brew's recipe:
- Pull 2 shots of espresso, or use about 1/2 cup of strong coffee.
- Stir in 1 tablespoon of chocolate sauce, 1 tablespoon of coconut syrup and 1 tablespoon of caramel syrup.
- Add about 1 cup of milk and pour over ice.
- Top with whipped cream and a caramel drizzle if you like.
FAQ
Does 7 Brew still have the German Chocolate?
Yes, at some stands. It is in 7 Brew's October 2026 nutrition guide and on some stands' ordering pages, though not on 7brew.com's menu. If your stand does not list it, ask for a mocha with coconut and caramel.
Does the 7 Brew German Chocolate have pecans?
No. It is coconut and caramel in a mocha. Pecan is not one of the flavors on 7 Brew's menu.
Can you get a dairy-free German Chocolate at 7 Brew?
No. You can swap in oat, almond or coconut milk, but 7 Brew's allergen chart lists milk in the mocha mix and the caramel sauce, so the drink is still not dairy-free.
